• Why I Created the Behind the Screams Membership

I've always been drawn to the what ifs.

What if our souls really do leave our bodies when we sleep?

What if a girl in Room Thirteen could possess you — not because you summoned her, but because you're already broken enough to let her in?

That's the kind of horror I write.

If that’s the kind of horror you love, you can start reading the first 4 chapters of every story for free here:

    STEPHEN SIMPSON BOOKS

I write not just blood and shadows, but the quiet things that haunt us long after the page is turned.

Ideas that start off as whispers and twist into something darker. Stories that blur the line between psychological and paranormal, fear and feeling.

I didn’t set out to be a horror writer but looking back, I think the signs were always there.

My mom introduced me to horror movies when I was way too young (questionable parenting, I know, but I loved every minute of it). To this day, I’m still afraid of the dark (not surprising). There must always be a light on.

I especially love the kind of horror that makes you gasp at the end. The kind that leaves you questioning everything. The kind that lingers.

And that’s why I created Behind the Screams — a membership for readers who don’t just want the gore or the thrill, but the deeper, weirder, more emotional side of horror too. It also keeps me accountable. Posting a new chapter every week means I have to keep showing up, keep writing, and share the story with you as it unfolds.

Right now, I’m writing The Girl Nobody Remembers, a psychological horror inspired by the Mandela Effect, parallel timelines, and the terrifying fragility of memory. It’s being shared chapter by chapter every Wednesday only inside the membership.

And because I wanted this space to feel even more worthwhile, you’ll also get full access to all of Stephen Simpson’s published books — so there’s always something to read between chapters.

Not really into horror? You can also sample the first 4 chapters of stories by Rosaline Saul and Lynette Ferreira — no signup needed.

Thank you for being here. For reading. For believing in the what ifs.
